Reading is FUN BugABoo BookNut Card

Created this book-shaped card using Darcie Book Cover embossing folder, BugAboo digi BookNut colored with computer, scissors for trimming the shaped book and cutting out/paper piecing the digi, Lawn Fawn Smitty's ABCs stamps to spell out the sentiment I made "Reading Is FUN!" and Tim Holtz paper distresser.

Made the card for my daughter who enjoys reading. She likes to read an actual book as opposed to reading with a Nook or some such device although she does read quite a lot on her laptop; just not books. She enjoys turning the pages of an actual book

Story (no pun intended) I want to tell is of a book, Cold Days, by Jim Butcher I gave to my daughter for Christmas last yr 2012. It was a special book because it was an autographed by the author that I had my name on a list for from Barnes & Noble. When I received an email that book was available I tried to order the autographed copy. It allowed me to put the book in my cart but when I went to check out it indicated that the autographed copy book was not available. Well, Barnes & Noble phoned me before Christmas that they had received the book in so I went that very day to buy it. Saw that it was autographed and cost was same price as non-autographed copy and I had a coupon to get 25% off so that was even better. She started to read the book Christmas Day and before Christmas dinner she got almost 1/2 way thru book and noticed that several pages were missing and that several pages were duplicated for the missing pages. Not wanting to spoil the book's ending she stopped reading it. Cked online and several other people had reported that they had same thing; an autographed copy with same missing & duplicated pages. Went on JB FaceBook and commented but never heard back. Seems that autographed copies were part of a bad batch of printed books with missing & duplicate pages. Day after Christmas I phoned B&N and the mgr told me they would hold a non-autographed copy for me and I could keep the missing page autographed copy. Went to pick up the book and girl at counter told me that I had to give her the damaged book in order to get the other for free. I told her that the mgr who right at the right time came around the corner said that I was to get the new book free without giving them the autographed copy. Brought the book home & daughter finished it that day. Yes, she can read & comprehend a book the size of a Harry Potter book which this was in one day.

I enjoy reading. I do not read as many books as I use to. Photo below shows some paperback classic favs of  mine & at the bottom of the stack is the current book, Life of Pi, I'm reading. I'm over 1/2 way thru book. Started reading it after Christmas when I asked daughter if she had the book with her. She had read it in high school and did have it at home. She told me she enjoyed the book.Took it with me on mini trip to CA. There are parts that I do not like about the book. This is not my typical book I read. Besides the classics you see here I enjoy reading mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark. I read many of the first John Grisham law fiction books but his works of late do not interest me. Now to the card.

  1. That is a very cool looking embossing folder and definitely perfect for the reading lover. I'm the opposite of your daughter....I much prefer reading on my Kindle...much lighter weight than a book and easier for little old hands to hold. I'm reading a paper book right now and I get tired of holding it in bed. The Kindle I can hold and read with one hand! LOL!
